The winner of the first ever Mobilia NEXT design contest, in collaboration with Index-Design, was announced last year at the Interior Design Show (IDS) in Toronto. Accompanied by Mobilia‘s president, Johannes Kau, the winning designer received a 5,000$ prize and will see his project distributed in stores and online.
My name is Marie-Hélène Trottier and I am the Creative Director at Jump&Love, Mobilia’s communications agency. I’ve been working with Mobilia for six years now on a wide range of projects: small, medium, large and extra large! We have such a close working relationship that whenever people hear me talk about Mobilia they take it for granted that I work there! The reason I care so much about this account is the people: the members of the Mobilia team are brilliant and they are passionate about what they do.

This stylish tone-on-tone line is an hommage to some of the most iconic furnishing designs of the modern era, the stuff that dream homes and stylish office spaces are made of. Rediscover your favourites in a new light.
Because we believe in emerging talent, we have decided to call upon the next generation of Canadians to add their creative touch to our collections and see their ideas produced and distributed in Mobilia stores.
It is with much enthusiasm that we launched, last May, the very first edition of the NEXT contest in collaboration with Index-Design (a Montreal agency whose mission is to connect interior design professionals). The contest offers the opportunity for designers with less than 5 years of professional experience to let their creativity shine by presenting new furniture designs.
When Mobilia was presented the opportunity to be discovered by Vancouver interior designers and architects, we thought of Gillian Segal, the founder of a local interior design firm. It was love at first sight. Gillian joined the Mobilia team as Creative Director for the launch of our new velvet collection, and produced two vignettes showcasing our products. In her most recent blog post, Gillian writes about her experience working with us for this project.
When Mobilia asked us to travel to Europe on an inspiring trend watching business trip, we thought we’d make the most of it. I mean, who wouldn’t do the same, right? The “we” in this story is Mobilia’s Marketing Director and the Creative Director at Mobilia’s branding agency. Two women asked to travel to Copenhagen and Paris to explore the latest trends in retail design, hospitality and culture. During our stay, we walked an astounding 105 kilometers over 7 days (yes, we counted our steps), how else were we to be at peace with all those delicious meals and wine!? Here’s a brief account of restaurants, shops and other hidden gems that we found inspiring, beautiful, delicious and mostly, charming.
