Do you ever walk into a living space and think it brims personality? That the furniture works well together but isn’t too matchy-matchy… you can’t quite put your finger on it but everything just flows.

“Refined, luxurious with a little edge”

The chances are the person who designed the space incorporated the essential elements (sofa, rug, coffee table) but they also included the all important accent chair.

From club and slipper chairs to the more ornate Bergère and wingback, accent chairs add much needed extra seating but can also add colour and set the style tone of a room. Accent chairs are where we can take a little bit of a design risk. They are much like the shoes of an outfit, we can decide if we want something a little sexy, bold or maybe even bohemian.

Today, accent chairs are moving even further away from the traditional, new shapes, styles and materials are being used. To help you find the perfect accent chair, I’ve gathered my top 3 accents chairs for 2016.

Neiva

The Neiva chair has a mid century modern vibe and features hand-dyed fabric in retro colours. I love the light look of this chair and due to its airy design it won’t feel heavy in a small space. It will add a “wink” to a room and will complement any existing design.

Effie

I am so in love with this chair. It feels more like an art piece than a chair and is surprisingly comfortable. The design features rope and wood and gives off a bohemian vibe. I love this piece in a modern living room or on a garden patio. Complement this look with plenty of greenery in the room. You will give your space an immediate “relaxed” feel.

Wavil

If chairs could be described by a location the WAVIL chair would say Paris, “left bank”. Refined, luxurious with a little edge, this accent chair will add an avant-garde touch to your living room. I can imagine Yves Saint Laurent (circa 1979) enjoying a cappuccino in this chair in his apartment at 55 rue de Babylone (tour his former apartment here and see if you agree: http://www.architecturaldigest.com/gallery/laurent-slideshow-122001/all)

I hope I have given you some inspiration to add a little flavour to your living space with a new accent chair, trust me, when you mix it up a little you will fall in love again with everything in your home.
