Job title: Buyer Accessories

Job Description:

Reporting directly to the President, the buyer of decorative accessories is responsible for his/her category of goods, monitoring the competitions’ activities, planning and implementing the purchasing programme, the marketing, the promotional plan, the visual presentation, in-store inventory control, and finally for attaining his/her category’s the profitability objectives.

He/she will regularly interact with the President, his/her purchasing colleagues, store and distribution centre managers, sales personnel as well as Mobilia’s senior management.

Responsibilities

General Tasks:

•Provide leadership for the contemporary style sought by Mobilia customers in each of the 4 worlds.
•Maximize accessory investments to accrue maximum return on investment.
•Provide leadership for the marketing of accessories in stores in order to create a contemporary style that will make Mobilia stand out from its competition.
•Ensure the marketing of accessories in stores, keeping in line with Mobilia's contemporary style.
•Help improve the purchasing strategies and processes that determine Mobilia's style direction.
•Develop the decorative accessories category to help Mobilia become a renowned destination in the market.
•Achieve financial objectives in the accessories category, as set by management.

Administrative and Control Work:

•Negotiate the price, delivery, and packaging, and make sure that the margins are optimized for maximum return on investment.
•Manage purchase budgets according to the standards and objectives set by management.
•Analyze retail sales (by supplier, store, and category) and ensure that the financial performance is at the level established by the buyer and management.  
•Establish a level of inventory sufficient for each category of accessories and manage it according to sales.
•Purchase accessories according to the needs of each Mobilia world and taking standards into account.
•Take into account the marketing of accessories in store and encourage harmony and visual impact.
•Establish an evolving strategy which aims at making Mobilia a destination for the accessories category.
•Determine the retail price of all accessories, and ensure that sales and margins reach objectives set by management.

Creative Responsibilities:

•Interpret style trends and send them to respective stores and departments on a regular basis.
•Make regular visits to Mobilia stores and to the competition. Stay up to date on new concepts, products, trends, both locally and internationally.
•Choose accessories that will appear in catalogues and other promotional materials. Make sure to always have sufficient levels of inventory to meet customer demands.
•Develop promotional strategies relating to the categories purchased to maximize their sales.  
•Maintain an open and regular line of communication with the stores and take their comments into consideration when making purchasing decisions.

5 Goals for 2016

•Maintain continued sales for all accessory categories, reach or exceed 2016 sales budgets.
•Identify and find new accessory categories that would be relevant to Mobilia.
•Improve the degree of harmonization between the selection of accessories and the selection of furniture offered in store.
•Improve the concentration of certain accessory categories when it comes to in-store merchandizing.
•Carry out the purchasing plan and the marketing department's plan for the accessory categories.

Education

•University degree in a relevant discipline

Experience/Qualifications

•Work experience in the retail sector.
•Minimum of 6-7 years of experience as a buyer or product manager, nationally or internationally.
•Experience in budget planning, analysis and management, and in inventory and purchasing management within the context of computerized data management.
•Bilingualism required both orally and in writing, in both official languages.
•Experience interacting with different participants located in numerous sites, including suppliers and manufacturers in Canada and outside the country.
•Available for travel (50-60 days per year) in North America, Europe and Asia.
