To really set the scene of any room, the right amount and placement of light is essential. Just like the stage, lighting can set the mood of a space. When designing with light there are a few key considerations to ensure you get the look you want.

Carefully analyze a room’s function before you purchase any lighting. Does the room require task lighting? Is the area high traffic? (Making pendent or suspended lighting the best option.) What level is the seating at? (You want to avoid light shining directly onto your eyes).

Walk around a room and put together a well thought our plan before you make any selections. Shop for multiple styles of lamps. Be sure to mix it up. Lighting fixtures are like jewelry for the home, so you want to blend styles.

Montreal co-operative, LAMBERT & FILS recently designed six lighting fixtures for MOBILIA that are chic and timeless. The designs combine unique materials into a look that gives a nod to the 1960’s while remaining contemporary. I’m in love with their Cliff Tripod lamp, this style is ideal for a living room or study. For a dining space I would recommend the Cliff Suspension lamp, it casts a sophisticated glow and has an art installation feel to it. Remember that lighting is an investment. It will be used regularly for years to come so always shop for quality.
