Mobilia is honoured to have been invited to help furnish the domes of Dômes Charlevoix. Like most nature lovers, we are enchanted by this project and proud to be a part of it. Not only does it neatly wed design and holiday-making, but it’s also environmentally friendly! Read this article and find out how you can participate in the contest.

Located midway between Baie-Saint-Paul and the Massif de Charlevoix on a mountainside in the middle of a forest in the municipality of Petite-Rivière-Saint-François, Dômes Charlevoix is a new spin on eco-conscious luxury resorts. The four-season igloo-like domes are smoothly integrated into the landscape, offering splendid views of the river and the surrounding environment. Only three domes have been built so far, but with growing demand, additional domes are under construction to give more tourists an opportunity to immerse themselves in the stunning natural environment of the Charlevoix region.

Design and environment

Architectural work on the project is being handled by Bourgeois / Lechasseur architectes, who have offices in Quebec City and the Îles de la Madeleine. The domes are reminiscent of the biosphere designed by the architect, inventor and environmentalist Buckminster Fuller and built in Montreal for Expo 67. While the construction is very solid, it is lightweight and uses few materials, thus fulfilling the project’s specific ecological aims, namely, leaving a minimal footprint and preserving as many trees as possible.

The furniture selected by the design team also blends in well with the nature of the place. It is contemporary but discreet, in the sense that it doesn’t steal nature’s thunder. The Dômes Charlevoix team took a real shine to Mobilia’s Woog bean bag. Beautiful, low-key and incredibly comfy, the Woog was the perfect choice of chair for relaxing in front of the fireplace and especially for contemplating the magnificent view of the Charlevoix!

Vacation trends

There’s a definite trend toward taking vacations locally as more and more Quebecers choose to travel within the province. Surveys show that 60 percent of Quebecers are happy to spend their summer vacation enjoying the tremendous beauty of Quebec’s landscapes and wide open spaces. Charlevoix tops the list of popular destinations within the province, along with Quebec City, the Gaspé, the Îles-de-la-Madeleine, among other spots.

The Dômes Charlevoix concept is also in sync with another noteworthy trend: eco-conscious luxury vacations. People want to be in harmony with nature while enjoying a little luxury. There are two things in particular that they seek: breathtaking natural beauty and exceptional architecture that enhances their appreciation of nature.
